CraftBarn Canada came into being out of love for beauty and appreciation for the creative process that takes place when immersing in a new craft. From that initial creative spark through an array of tactile experiences, we have explored fibres and clay in various ways, translating that joy into form and art, in an ever changing inspiring artistic community.

Featured Collections
Red clay
The original wine glass
- Wheelthrown and beautifully decorated these vessels were used for millennia to serve and drink red wine.
- Fully fired to high temperature they are unglazed on the inside, helping to smooth red wines and take away a little bit of that tannin and sourness of old wines.
- Completely food safe, this was and still is in many parts of the World the way of serving red wines.
Speckled clay
We love the beauty of speckled clay. It adds depth and character to any piece of pottery, functional or decorative.
The speckles in this clay body will bleed through most underglazes and glazes creating amazing effects.
Porcelain
- The beautiful luxurious porcelain brings unique characteristics to the ceramic world
- It evolved in China over 1200 years ago and it has usually been regarded as the most prestigious type of pottery for its delicacy, strength, resonance, white color and translucency.

- We are using many types of clay and glazes in our studio. If you would like something specific please let us know and we will try to make it for you.

Basketry From cloth weaving to basketry
- Basketry allows for the art of weaving to be so much more evidentiated and present in our daily living rhythms
- Baskets have become an art form far beyond their utilitarian use and the mixed materials that can be used in their creation have been very innovative
- From fabric and yarn coils to naturally harvested reed and bark, the possibilities are endless
- Ultimately they all bring into their dwelling space a sense of intimate gathering,togetherness, community and generosity

- Yarn was always something treasured and appreciated in our life
- discovering the journey of the yarn ball from fleece to wonderful creation was what initiated our adventures into the world of spinning, weaving, felting, yarn painting, knitting etc
- From wool to exotic fibres, we’ve been discovering the multitude of crafts that allow for artistic expression, and it all led to sharing our experiences with others
Learning
Classes and Events
Wheel Throwing is a 4 week session open to anyone interested. During each three hour class you will be guided through finding your personal approach to the potter’s wheel. you will learn the fundamentals of turning mug, bowl and plate forms on the potters wheel. Your instructor will guide you through centering, opening, widening and stretching clay. For the more experienced, join a Level 2 class. Here the instructor will help you problem solve, create more complex forms, and advance your skills. In the latter part of any session, you will be guided through trimming, addition of handles, embellishing and glazing your masterpieces.
Depending on scale, you can expect to bring home up to 15 coloured, microwave, dishwasher and oven safe treasures.
To ensure you receive the most from your experience, all tools, and unlimited practice clay are included in your fee.
Hand building sessions are open to all levels. The experienced instructors provide the guidance needed for structural and creative success. The beginner will be introduced to the fundamentals of hand building through pinch, coil and slab techniques. For the more experienced clay dabblers, our instructors will model an endless continuum of skills to add to your abilities. Depending on the scale of your work, you can expect to end the session with 7-15 finished decorative or functional pieces such as mugs and sculptures and everything.

A four week session available to all skill levels
- Introduction to pottery
- Basics Of Clay
- Guidance to finding your personal approach to potter's wheel
- Throwing techniques (centering, opening, widening and stretching the clay)
- Trimming, decorating, underglazes, carving, handles and fine refining
- Introduction to glazes, final decorations and firing
Clay Night/Date Night
Our Clay Nights are perfect for friends or couples to get together and try their hand at the potter’s wheel! (Price per couple).
Your night kicks off with an entertaining wheel demonstration. With guidance from your instructor and encouragement from your cohort, spend the night attempting to create a masterpiece. Laughter, shenanigans and creativity will round out the evening.
- At the end of the night choose a clay gift from our “Date shelf” (cups, bowls and other vessels made by our staff) to bring home with you and enjoy.
